Prevention Services is
active throughout the 20th Judicial District
Juvenile Services. When the program began in 2000,
Juvenile Services established community needs and
concerns. To address these needs, the “Making Life
Better For Kids” Conferences were initiated. Addressed
are family values and issues, youth activities and drug
and alcohol issues. Drug Free Youth In Town® (DFYIT),
another program, targets middle and high school
students, particularly those at risk. It incorporates
positive reinforcement and pro-social peer influence as
deterrents for alcohol, tobacco and other drug use.
Other services include community education on prevention
issues, i.e. classes in parenting, youth awareness,
social skills, anger management, drug and alcohol
awareness and independent living.
