Juvenile Intake and Assessment Services responds to law
enforcement requests for assistance, 24 hours a day,
seven days a week, for children in need of care (CINC)
and for juvenile offenders (JO). JIAS provides, at the
time of request, the following services: administration
of the intake and assessment tool; referral and
placement of youth; and emergency crisis counseling for
youth and their families. In addition JIAS may, based
on available funding, offer: shelter; drug and alcohol
screening and assessment; house arrest; conditional
release; follow-up crisis counseling and dispute
resolution if not currently provided in the community;
and other services approved by the judicial
administrator. Intake and Assessment Services are also
available to youth and families on a volunteer basis.
JIAS staff work closely with area agencies to determine
the needs and best interests of each individual youth
and family.
Funding for Juvenile Intake Workers and Transportation
Officers, who provide services on a contractual basis,
are included under this budget. These contractual
employees, however, are not included under the count of
regular employees. Services are provided on an
as-needed basis and there is no accurate method for
estimating hours of service that will provide the County
with an equivalent number of personnel.
