Concealed Carry Permits

An eight-hour approved training class is required before any person can apply for a concealed carry permit in the State of Kansas.  The office of the Attorney General has published a list of certified trainers on their website www.ksag.org along with the application that may be downloaded.

A Concealed Carry Application form can be picked up at the Barton County Sheriff’s Office Records Division, 1416 Kansas Ave, Great Bend, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Once a Barton County resident has received the mandatory training, they can bring the completed application packet and fees to the Barton County Detention Facility, located at 1416 Kansas Ave., Great Bend, Kansas.  There, the applicant will be fingerprinted and the Sheriff’s Office will forward the paperwork to the Attorney General’s Office for a criminal background check by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.  The Attorney General’s Office will then determine if a permit will be granted.

The Kansas Personal and Family Protection Act (KSA 75-7c01 et.seq spells out the process in great detail.  A summary of this bill can be read on the attorney general’s website.
