Since 1994 the Barton County Sheriff’s
Office has sponsored a Law Enforcement Explorer Program
open to youths ages 14-20. Its purpose is to introduce
our local youth to Law Enforcement careers in the
criminal justice system. As a result of this program,
several past members of this program have went on to
become law enforcement officers with some of those
staying in Barton County. As part of Explorer Post 189,
Explorers receive training and instruction in crime
scene investigation, traffic enforcement, criminal
procedure law, and have the opportunity to assist
Sheriff’s Deputies in a variety of duties on Patrol as
well as in the Detention Facility. Explorers learn about
career opportunities in Law Enforcement at the local,
state, and federal levels while analyzing criminal
justice education requirements for future career
choices. Additionally this program promotes character
development, self esteem, and citizenship training which
are all good traits for any youth to develop no matter
what career they may choose. |
