Juvenile Services

Journey to Change

Juvenile Services supports and assists communities in developing successful programs that will help reduce risk factors and enhance protective factors. Communities are encouraged to create partnerships with other agencies that have a key interest in prevention-focused services (schools, regional prevention centers, community mentoring programs) in order to maximize both funding and program capabilities. Prevention programs cover a wide range of service needs at the community level.

Journey to Change is utilizing the National Curriculum & Training Institute (NCTI), Inc., Crossroads/REAL Colors programs.  Topics covered include, Anger Control, Life Skills, Gang Involvement, Drugs and Alcohol, Misdemeanor Offense and Truancy.  These classes are for Immediate Intervention Program, Project S.T.A.Y. or JIAS youth referrals.  We are also utilizing the Pathways to Self Discovery and Change curriculum with identified youth in JISP and/or CCMA.  Others programs utilized for adjudicated youth are Thinking for a Change and Anger Replacement Therapy; youth are referred as appropriate.  Journey to Change also conducts quarterly parenting classes using a variety of parenting materials.  Active Parenting and Strengthening Families curriculum are available for English and Spanish speaking parents.

All youth in the 20th Judicial District between the ages of 10-18 who are identified for cognitive services through involvement in the Juvenile Intake and Assessment System, or who are identified by participating County Attorneys and who choose to participate in Immediate Intervention Program or Project S.T.A.Y. programs, or those youth on JISP or CCMA whose YLS/CMI scores indicate they qualify for particular programs offered through Journey to Change.
