Launch the media gallery 1 playerSheriff Brian Bellendir has served the citizens of Barton County for over 38 years. Sheriff Bellendir is 29TH Sheriff of Barton County. Sheriff Bellendir started his career in Law Enforcement in 1981 as Reserve Deputy for Sheriff Gene Marks. In 1986 Bellendir completed his training to become a certified law enforcement officer. He has been a patrol deputy, patrol sergeant, jail administrator and field lieutenant. Bellendir has a strong background in motor vehicle accident investigation, traffic enforcement and criminal investigations. He has received specialized and advanced training in these areas and continues to take an active part in investigations. It is not unusual to find the Sheriff on the road at a car accident or a crime scene. Brian has spent most of his adult life serving the citizens of Barton County and considers it an honor to be elected Sheriff.
Sheriff Bellendir is a Barton County native who attended Great Bend schools and Barton County Community College. Sheriff Bellendir also has a Bachelors degree from National College. He and his wife Carol are both residents of Great Bend.
Sheriff Bellendir oversees 41 Personnel employed by the Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff's Office has 6 Divisions, those divisions are Administration, Investigations, Road Patrol, Detention, Records and Civil Process.
The Sheriff's Office Administrative building is located at 1416 Kansas Ave, Great Bend, KS 67530. The Administrative Office houses the Administrative Division, Investigations Division and Road Patrol Division. Office hours are Monday thru Friday 8AM to 5PM.
The Barton County Detention Center is located at 1408 Kansas Ave, Great Bend, KS 67530. The Detention Center houses the Detention Division, Records Division and Civil Process Division. The Detention Division is operated 24-7-365. Records Division and Civil Process Division is operated Monday thru Friday 8AM to 5PM. (See Detention Division Page for Visitation Hours)
