DETENTION OFFICER - Barton County is accepting applications for a Detention Officer for the Sheriff's Office until the position is filled. The person in this position provides for the safe keeping of prisoners in the custody of the Sheriff, overseeing confinement to include mealtime, activities and transports. ASSISTANT COUNTY ATTORNEY The Barton County Attorney’s Office has an opening for a full-time position of Assistant County Attorney. Duties include representing the State of Kansas in the prosecution of assigned criminal, juvenile, traffic, child in need of care and care and treatment cases, and on-call status on a rotating basis. Depending on experience, the successful candidate’s primary case assignments may include traffic, juvenile, and some adult criminal cases or may focus only on high-level person felonies.
Minimum qualifications include a juris doctorate from an accredited college or university and admission to the Kansas Bar. Membership in the Kansas Bar Association is preferred. July Bar Exam takers are encouraged to apply. Must exercise independent judgement, good organizational decision-making skills. Must have excellent communication skills, written and verbal, and must have the ability to interpret laws, regulations, local codes and legal documents. The position requires that the employee have no felony convictions and no misdemeanor convictions for crimes involving moral turpitude or dishonesty. Submission to a background check is a requirement of this position. Depending on experience, pay range is $55,000 up to $90,000 plus benefits.

ON-CALL WORKER – Contractual positions open for grant-funded Barton County \ Juvenile Intake and Assessment. On-call outside the 8-5, M-F time periods. Travels to work with families and law enforcement to determine placement for youth. Must possess strong conflict resolution skills, ability to recognize need and refer to area resources. Administers testing to determine placement and referrals. Excellent written, oral communications. A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred but experience in Human Services or a related field will be considered. Must be a minimum of 21 years of age, possess valid Kansas DL, successfully complete JIAS training, pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug test.
