PRESS RELEASE
COVID-19
July 2, 2020 – 4pm
BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING
The Barton County Commission also acting as the Board of Health met on July 2, 2020 at 4pm to discuss Governor Laura Kelly’s EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 20-52 Requiring masks or other face coverings in public.
During special session earlier this year, the Kansas Legislature adopted House Bill No. 2016 allowing Kansas counties to issue an order related to public health to contain provisions that are less stringent than the provisions of an Executive Order issued by the Kansas Governor.
Today, The Board of Health adopted RESOLUTION NO. 2020-02 repealing the provisions of Kansas Executive Order No. 20-52. While Barton County believes that wearing face covering helps to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and that when social distancing is not allowed that masks should be worn, following consultation with the Local Health Officer, the Board of Health finds that full implementation of the Governor’s Executive Order is not necessary to protect the public health and safety. The Board of Health Ordered that Barton County opts out of the provisions of Executive Order No. 20-52 requiring masks or other face coverings in public.
Barton County citizens are urged to be vigilant in health safety practices and to continue washing
