Prevention

CENTRAL  KANSAS  PARTNERSHIP

The Central Kansas Partnership is a prevention coalition of parents, professionals and concerned citizens from Barton, Pawnee, Rice, Stafford, Rush and Ellsworth Counties. 

Mission:    To join in a common effort to build healthy and safe communities, reduce the risks of Alcohol, Tobacco and other drugs, and promote healthy attitudes and behaviors.

Task Forces:  

Chronic Disease Risk Reduction:   Barton, Rice, and Stafford Counties    Tobacco Use Prevention & Cessation,  Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, Tobacco Free Parks Policies and School-Community Trails.

Drug & Alcohol Prevention:   Providing education for all residents to prevent alcohol, tobacco and other drug use among youth.  The Task Force is currently concentrating on Underage Drinking on a county-wide basis and completing the Strategic Framework Planning Process.  Special projects have focused on Opiod Addiction Prevention, Red Ribbon Week, Back to School Drug Prevention Education, Reality U, Sticker Shock, Media Education for the community and alternative activities for middle school and high school students.  

Suicide Prevention:  Community education throughout the year and special events including Golden Belt Glow for Life Walk and 5K Run and Remembrance Ceremony.

Be Well Barton County:  Currently focusing on improving opportunities for physical activity in Barton County through Complete Streets policies, systems, and environment changes and improving access to healthy foods.

Central Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition:  Provides breastfeeding resource information and education to community members and healthcare providers; and Promotes breastfeeding policies and lactation areas at work sites for mothers returning to work.

Human Trafficking Prevention:  Currently working on educating the community about recognizing signs of Human Trafficking, building community awareness of the issue, and bringing expert speakers to communities to provide current information.



Current Public Health Issues

Barton County Health Department provides public health education through local media, presentations, and at public forums on current health issues including influenza, HIV, teen pregnancy prevention, and any disease outbreaks. Contact the Health Department in advance to schedule a health program or services outreach for a group.
